The Telegraph.co.uk recently compiled a list called 10 Of The Best Phil Collins Songs and we agree with them completely, so wanted to show you the list and then leave you with a Spotify playlist we created (cos 10 is never enough!).

During the Eighties, Phil Collins was one of the most successful artists in the world. Between 1984 and 1990, he released a staggering thirteen US Top Ten Hits, and achieved more US Top 40 singles than any other artist during the 1980s.

Born and raised in West London, Collins started playing drums at home from the age of five, as well as completing drama school acting, which secured him roles as a child actor. Collins’ big break came in 1970, when he answered a newspaper advertisement for a drummer in a new band called Genesis. The Peter Gabriel-fronted band needed a change, and Collins appeared to provide that extra spark. Eventually, in 1975, when Gabriel left, Collins moved on to become the group’s lead singer.

In 1980, after he’d left Genesis and undergone a painful divorce, Collins embarked on a solo career. He went on to release a string of highly successful albums, including Face Value (1981), No Jacket Required (1985) and ...But Seriously (1989). Eight of his studio albums sold 33.5 million copies, and an estimated 150 million worldwide, making him one of the best selling artists of all time. He is one of only two recording artists - including Paul McCartney - to have sold over 100 million records worldwide.

In The Air Tonight 

"In The Air Tonight" was Collins' debut solo single after his departure from Genesis, and was released on the album Face Value (1981). The song was partially written to express the grief he felt after divorcing his first wife, Andrea Berorelli in 1980. In an interview, he said: "I wrote the lyric spontaneously, I'm not quite sure what the song is about, but there is a lot of frustration and anger."

Another Day In Paradise

Another Day In Paradise is a moralistic song written in the third person, which addresses the consequences of ignoring the needy and the homeless. It was released as the first single from Collins' number 1 solo album But Seriously, and went on to win a Grammy Award for Record of the Year, as well as the 1990 Brit Award for Best Single. It was also his seventh number 1 single in the US.

You'll Be In My Heart 

"You'll Be In My Heart" was written especially for the Disney movie, Tarzan, and was first released in 1999. It tells the story of two people that share a very strong bond, but aren't allowed to be together physically - think Romeo and Juliet in the jungle! The song was - surprise surprise - very successful, winning Collins an Oscar for Best Original Song, and receiving steady international airplay.

Against All Odds

What a song! "Against All Odds" must be one of history’s best power ballads. The song won Collins the Grammy Award for the Best Pop Vocal Performance and was nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar. According to Collins in a 1995 interview, he was shocked by the song’s success, saying: “We recorded the song in two days. One day in New York, one day in Los Angeles. The mixes were done by phone and the song went to number 1, I couldn’t believe it.”

Easy Lover

"Easy Lover" was jointly written by Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire, and Collins. The song is about a captivating woman who isn't attainable. When asked about writing it, Collins said: "The song doesn't sound like any particular era. It's just fantastic." Upon release, the single achieved number 1 in several countries, including Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland and the UK. In 2015, Electric Six covered and re-released it on their album Mimicry and Memories.

One More Night

"One More Night" was released on Phil Collins' third album, No Jacket Required (1984). A soft rock ballad, it tells the story of a lover pleading with his partner for one more night to prove his devotion. The song was featured in Martin Scorsese’s drama, The Colour of Money, which starred Tom Cruise and Paul Newman and has been covered by a number of artists, including ex-Veruca Salt member Nina Gordon.

I Wish It Would Rain Down

"I Wish It Would Rain Down" is from Colllins’ 1989 album ...But Seriously, and features lead guitar by the iconic Eric Clapton. The song was a smash hit, and reached number 3 in the US, number 1 in Canada, and number 7 in the UK singles chart. In Canada, it was the longest-running number 1 single of 1990, spending six weeks at the top of the charts. It tells the tale of a man wishing to get together with his ex-partner.

Do You Remember

"Do You Remember" is about a lost lover, who cheated and ruined a relationship. It was released on Collins' fourth studio album ...But Seriously (1989), and became a big hit in America, where it reached number 4 in the Billboard 100. Talking to The Mail On Sunday, Collins commented: “When I wrote this, people were starting to tire of drum machines, but sometimes they create a really hypnotic effect. Real drummers get bored and start getting fancy… I should know!”

A Groovy Kind Of Love

"A Groovy Kind Of Love" was originally written by a group called The Mindbenders on their Love Is Good (1965). When Collins originally decided to cover the song, he wanted to do it as a collaboration, but later decided to do it solo when he got a starring role in the eponymous film. Collins' version reached number 1 in both the UK and US charts, and remains his only single to reach number 1 in both countries.

Sussudio

"Sussudio" was conceived by Collins while he played with a drum machine. The title is a nonsensical word that is said to have been inspired by a man that worked in his studio and had a stutter, meaning he couldn't say the word 'studio' properly. Collins has also said that the lyrics are about a girl he had a crush on when he was a schoolboy.
