On June 6th 1977 “Dreams” entered the ARIA Singles Chart at #19. It stayed in the chart for 16 weeks. In the US “Dreams” peaked at #1 in the Billboard chart, and #24 in the UK Chart where it stayed Top 40 for 8 weeks. It was the highest charting single for Fleetwood Mac in the 70s.

Stevie Nicks wrote the song in 10mins and initially the rest of the band were disinterested in the demo until Lindsey Buckingham played around with the guitar parts and added his magic to the original drum beat and Stevie Nicks’ vocal parts.

Despite an initial lack of enthusiasm from the rest of the band, it was, of course, included on the Rumours album and 40 years since it’s release has proven to stand the test of time as a hit release for several other artists who’ve covered it.

Nothing beats the original, though.

The Corrs released a cover of “Dreams” in 1999 which hit the UK & homeland Irish Singles Charts at #6 and Top 50 in Australia, Canada and France.

In 2005 Stevie Nicks contributed a new vocal recording for a dance version of the song by DJ’s Deep Dish. This version reached Top 30 in Australia, the UK and the US.

In 2012 British pop stars Gabrielle Aplin and Bastille put this haunting version on Youtube which has clocked up a whopping 4.5million streams.
