It’s officially a classic rock Christmas this year, with a stack of holiday-themed favourites from the 70s and 80s dominating the Billboard Top Rock Streaming chart.

This week’s top 10 includes entries from Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Eagles and more, alongside some other classic rockers, likes Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams and Eagles' Hotel California, which are proving to be eternal hits.

Holiday songs are all about nostalgia, so it’s no wonder festive favorites are returned to over and over again. Lennon's Happy X-Mas (War Is Over), released 50 years ago in 1971 as both a Christmas song and Vietnam War protest anthem, serves as a yearly homage to peace.

McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime dates all the way back to 1979 and Eagles' Please Come Home for Christmas was released even earlier, in 1978. The holiday hit was first recorded by blues singer Charles Brown in 1960 but rocketed up the charts with the addition of the Eagles’ syrupy harmonies.
