The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been dropping some crazy exciting news of late! First came the announcement last month that their estranged guitarist, John Frusciante had returned to the fold; and earlier this week, drummer Chad Smith confirmed in an interview with Rolling Stone that the OG lineup has been busy working on a new album.

“…we’re psyched. The festivals are the only shows booked. For now, we’ll mostly be concentrating on new songs and writing a new record. We’re all real excited to make new music.”

And RHCP fans are officially psyched too! The band haven’t played a show with Frusciante since the end of their 2006–07 Stadium Arcadium tour which wrapped up on August 26th, 2007, at Leeds Festival in England. Their career-spanning set included, “Can’t Stop,” “By the Way,” “Give It Away” and “Dani California” and, as was common for the time, concluded with an epic 10-minute jam.

Nobody knew at the time that they were witnessing the last time the four musicians would play together for over a decade. And now, as we eagerly await their return, it’s a thrilling reminder of what’s in store as they gear up to hit the stage together again in 2020!
