Goodbye, Miss Sharon Jones

Posted

The bad news just keeps coming this past week or so. Now we say farewell to the wonderful Sharon Jones, the woman who, with her band The Dap Kings and pals at Daptone Records, kick-started the whole classic soul & funk revival thing with their debut album Dap Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings in 2002.

So strong was the impression they made that producer Mark Ronson used the Dap Kings to back Amy Winehouse on her massive Back to Black album – that’s them backing her on smash hit “Rehab”.

The Dap Kings, with Sharon this time,  also featured on Michael Bublé's 2009 album, Crazy Love, on the track "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)".

Sharon was much-loved here in Australia – we picked up on her early and she and the Dap Kings were regular visitors.

While our thoughts are with her loved ones and her extended family at Daptone, let’s celebrate the bold and brave life of Sharon Jones with one of her many classics “100 Days, 100 Nights”.
