David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley and Tom DeLonge were all among the famous faces that were recreated as cakes on a recent episode of Britain’s cult cooking show, The Great British Bake Off. During the ‘Showstopper Challenge’ segment, the show's 12 contestants were tasked with building a 3-D cake replica depicting the face of their heroes – with some hilariously varied results!
The @BritishBakeOff Twitter account provided an equally hilarious commentary to the proceedings, describing Marc Elliot, a professional bronze sculptor’s chocolate and vanilla David Bowie cake, depicting the singer’s 1973 Aladdin Sane cover as “more Gobbling King than Goblin King.”

While, digital manager, Laura Adlington chose to recreate Freddie Mercury in a lemon-and-elderflower cake, portraying the late singer in his signature yellow leather jacket, with the judges concluding “Freddie Mercury’s head exploded … but the Dough Must Go On!”

And Dave Friday’s strawberry, mint and dark chocolate creation, which he dubbed Three Flavours of Tom DeLonge, seemed to inspire a flashback to a secret past from the former Blink 182 frontman/alien aficionado.
We’re really hoping this hobby starts trending!
