Happy Birthday Mick Taylor

Happy Birthday Mick Taylor

Although only a member of the Rolling Stones for about 5 years, Mick Taylor contributed some fairly legendary guitar parts to the band's repertoire between 1969–74. He has appeared on some of the Stones' classic albums including Let It BleedSticky Fingers and Exile on Main St.

Today is his 69th birthday, and for any human that spent time with Keith Richards, it's probably a miracle he's still here! So let's celebrate this milestone by looking at some of his best contributions to the Rolling Stones...

Brown Sugar

The opening track and lead single from their album Sticky Fingers. In a Rolling Stone Magazine interview (1995) with Mick Jagger, he spoke at length about the song, its inspiration and success … including claiming credit for writing the lyrics. He attributed the success of the song to a "good groove".

Rocks Off

Taken from Exile On Main St, it's a pretty crazy song about heroin use. It features a sudden divergence near the two-minute fifteen-second mark into what has been called a psychedelic jam of sorts, with Mick Jagger's vocals electronically distorted and the guitar chords stretched, with a lovely Mick Taylor solo at the end.

Sway

This great cut from Sticky Fingers is his best. He not only reportedly wrote the song with Jagger but he also played the bluesy slide in the middle of the song and the terrific lead at the end. Richards may have been responsible for the Stones' greatest riffs, but Taylor was behind their best-ever solos.

This version is sensational...
