Former Runaways singer, Cherie Currie and her musical collaborator, drummer/singer Brie Darling – who hails from another 70s all-female group, Fanny – have released a stripped-back cover of Soundgarden’s 1994 Chris Cornell-penned hit, “Black Hole Sun” in benefit of the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation.
“[Chris’] artistry shows in everything he touched,” Currie said in a statement explaining why she and Darling wanted to be involved in the project. “He loved people more than he loved himself. There will never be another Chris Cornell.”
“Immediately, I knew the song I would like us to do, my favourite…'Black Hole Sun!'” Darling added. “I felt Cherie’s and my voices would work well on his beautiful and haunting melody. I love her and my different sounds and styles that work so well together. What a gift and inspiration, Chris’ talent was truly special.”
