It’s fair to say that new Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody has taken the world by storm. It topped box office sales on its opening weekend and, a month later, the buzz about this film continues to gain momentum. Tipped to be one of the biggest-selling musical biopics of all time, these latest nominations may just be the push needed to see it go all the way to the Oscars!

The film itself will compete for, ‘Best Motion Picture – Drama’, and star, Rami Malek has been nominated for, ‘Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama’, for his portrayal of frontman Freddie Mercury.

The movie is facing some serious competition, going up against - Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, A Star is Born and If Beale Street Could Talk. Malek will have to beat out Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Willem Dafoe (At Eternity's Gate), Lucas Hedges (A Boy Erased) and John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) to take home the award for Best Actor.

Last month, Queen guitarist, Brian May hailed praises for Rami Malek’s “remarkable” performance as Freddie Mercury and said it was deserving of an Oscar nomination.

The winners will be announced at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills, on January 6, 2019.

Earlier this week, Queen and Adam Lambert announced that Queen will be heading out on the Rhapsody Tour across North America in July and August next year. Fingers crossed some Aussie dates will be added too!
