Liam Gallagher has performed at the 2019 MTV EMAs in Seville, Spain, and took the opportunity to revisit Oasis’ 1995 smash hit “Wonderwall” alongside his single “Once” from his recently released, solo album Why Me? Why Not.

Accompanied by his band, a large string section and several backup singers, the Oasis frontman opened with an emotional rendition of “Once” before launching into a crowd-pleasing performance of “Wonderwall.” During the chorus, Gallagher referenced the awards’ location by changing the lyrics, singing: “There are many things I’d like to say to you, but I don’t speak Spanish.”

During the ceremony, Gallagher also scored the first-ever Rock Icon Award given out by the MTV EMAs. In true form, he accepted the accolade with confidence and bravado, saying: “I won’t keep you too long, but I want to congratulate Seville for having a lovely city. I want to congratulate MTV for recognising my brilliance. Thanks for the award. I wear it well.”

“Once” comes off Gallagher’s recent solo album Why Me? Why Not., which dropped in back in September of this year. The album is a collaboration with producers Andrew Wyatt and Greg Kurstin, who both worked on the singer's previous 2017 solo album, As You Were.
