Sister Sledge are here in December, with KC & The Sunshine Band and the Village People in what promises to be an awesome show.
The tour sees Sister Sledge back on the road following the death of sibling/member Joni, who passed away unexpectedly in March. The band’s first performance following Joni’s death was at a fundraising gala for their We Are Family Foundation in New York in late April which saw the remaining sisters joined on stage by producer Nile Rogers, who, together with Chic partner Bernard Edwards, was responsible for producing their biggest hits.
Sister Sledge first broke through with “We Are Family” in 1979, but they’d been making records since 1971 – the year they began performing in their home town of Philadelphia.
Below you can check out their super rare first single, which finds them sounding very much like a female Jackson 5, and, from a few years later, ’74, an early performance on Soul Train.
If you want to hear the great hits “We Are Family”, "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "Lost in Music", check out their great 1979 We Are Family album here on Spotify.
