Stevie Nicks Re-Records "Gypsy" For A New Netflix Series

Stevie Nicks has re-recorded the 1982 Fleetwood Mac classic "Gypsy" for a brand new Netflix series that stars Naomi Watts. The series of the same name is about a psychiatrist who gets too involved in her client’s private lives.

“I’m very excited for the world to hear Gypsy more like I wrote it, on piano”, Stevie Nicks spoke to Entertainment Weekly “I am very proud of this version.”

Interestingly, show creator Lisa Rubin only first heard this song in a coffee shop, when the show was in an early form. The show is heavily influenced by the song's theme and reference to the main character, Jean, played by Watts.

“I didn’t know the song Gypsy, so when it came on, the tone felt so right. I looked up the lyrics and what it meant and it resonated, all of that longing and feeling, it felt fitting for the show, so it became part of the fabric,” said Rubin.

“It suggests this idea of grounding yourself in who you used to be and the different versions of yourself. There’s melancholy in it, but something that also feels romantic… It feels bare and haunting. It’s still the same song, but there’s a darker element"

Here is the new verison of the song produced by Greg Kurstin.
