Sturgill Simpson Reveals Beautiful New Video

Posted

"Simpson sits over darkly shifting waters singing of the warm, rejuvenative power of love, as a beautiful animation shows hearts dropping onto the ocean floor, all in black and white." - Noisey.

"Breakers Roar" is the new video from Sturgill Simpson , a recent discovery for us that we can't recommend highly enough. His genre-challenging sound has caught the critics' attention, receiving huge amounts of praise for his new take on blues/rock/country on new album A Sailor's Guide To Earth. Sturgill is an artist who "simply won’t be confined by notions of genre or, for that matter, anyone else’s expectations.” - said Paste.

Simpson previously released the music video for his rendition of Nirvana’s "In Bloom", the second song from A Sailor’s Guide To Earth. The video was directed by Matt Mahurin, who collaborated with Simpson on his recent Brace For Impact (Live A Little) video. His previous work includes collaborations with Peter Gabriel, U2, REM, Tracy Chapman, Sting, Bonnie Raitt, Ice-T, Metallica, David Byrne, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits.

Here's what the critics are saying about Simpson...

NPR Music
"Thrilling new music… Country crooner Sturgill Simpson has turned Nirvana's scorching grunge rock hit 'In Bloom' into a slow-burning, twisted ballad...Simpson sings in the loveliest of voices, turning the original song on its head."

Rolling Stone
"Sturgill Simpson makes one small but significant addition to the lyrics in his soulful cover of Nirvana's 'In Bloom' … after each 'don't know what it means,' he chimes in with his own 'to love someone.' While that idea may be implied in Kurt Cobain's original, it's a distinction made all the more poignant by the fact that Simpson recorded the song and his new album A Sailor's Guide to Earth especially for his young son."

Sturgill's new album 'A Sailor's Guide To Earth' is out now - we recommend you give it a spin! For fans of Jason Isbell, Gary Clark Jr., Drive By Truckers. Find out more here.
