A deluxe vinyl release has been announced for US punk band Television’s debut album Marquee Moon. Considered one of the most influential albums of the last 40 years, the 2-LP set on blue vinyl will be available on 2 October and can be pre-ordered here.

Television formed in 1973 with Tom Verlaine (guitar/lead vocals), Richard Lloyd (guitar), Billy Ficca (drums), and Richard Hell (bass). As part of the 70s New York City underground rock scene, they were among the first bands to play the punk rock and new wave venue CBGB. Hell left the band in 1975 before the recording of Marquee Moon, to be replaced by Fred Smith.

Marquee Moon immediately earned widespread critical acclaim following its release in February 1977 and inspired a number of musicians and bands. Verlaine’s vocals and fretwork, Lloyd’s angular guitar playing, and Ficca and Smith’s halting, unexpected drum and bass work all combined to reassert a guitar-based music during a time when soft-rock and disco ruled the airwaves. The band also ventured - very successfully - into extended sonic explorations, despite punk’s call for shorter, faster songs.

In addition to Marquee Moon‘s original eight flawless cuts, this deluxe vinyl version includes a second LP with five additional tracks originally released on the 2003 CD reissue, (some making their vinyl debut here), including alternate takes of “See No Evil,” “Friction,” and “Marquee Moon,”  the full-length version of the single “Little Johnny Jewel,” and an instrumental track.
