To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their critically-acclaimed eighth album, Disintegration, melancholy goth-rockers, The Cure will be returning to Australia to headline Sydney’s ‘Vivid LIVE 2019’. They will be performing four shows at the iconic Sydney Opera House in May in what will be the world premiere of their anniversary tour. It will be the band’s first time in Australia since they headlined ‘Splendour In The Grass’ festival back in 2016. 

“Vivid LIVE is a wonderful international event," Robert Smith said.

"Our Reflections shows in 2011 were truly memorable experiences, and with the excitement surrounding those early album performances in mind, we are more than delighted to be announcing our return in May 2019 to present the world premiere of Disintegration - 30th Anniversary.”

Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music and Vivid LIVE Curator, Ben Marshall, added, “Disintegration sealed The Cure’s undisputed position of global dominance while defiantly remaining outsiders who created an artistic body of work of lasting significance.

"An immaculately glacial, majestic album marrying raw, intense emotion with some of the biggest hits of their career, Disintegration links the spectral sorrow of Unknown Pleasures with the menacing catharsis of Nevermind."

At its time of release in 1989, Disintegration cracked the top ten of music charts globally and includes some of The Cure's biggest hits to date, such as, “Pictures Of You” and “Lovesong”. The album is characterized by its use of synthesizers keyboards, and slow, droning guitar progressions that create and sustain a mood of gloom that supports Smith's introspective vocals.
