TINA – The Tina Turner Musical is a celebration of resilience and an inspiration of triumph over adversity. Based on the life of the legendary artist, the stage show reveals a comeback story like no other – a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race to become the global Queen of Rock n’ Roll. Twelve-time Grammy Award winner, now aged 82, remains one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time. She has won 12 Grammy Awards and her live shows have been seen by millions, with more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer in music history.

The musical received its world premiere in April 2018 in London, where it opened to five-star reviews and broke box office records at the Aldwych Theatre. In March 2019, the German production opened at Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg, the Broadway production followed in November 2019 and was nominated for 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical

The Queen of Rock n' Roll had a special message for her Australian fans.

"Hello Sydney! I am so excited to be announcing that Tina - The Tina Turner Musical will be opening in Sydney next year. Australia has always shared abundant love with me, going back to my early concerts in the late 70s through the uplifting partnership with the National Rugby League. It is very special for me that we will be reunited. The joy, passion and message of resilience in my musical is so important now as ever. Thank you from the bottom my heart for welcoming me with open arms once again," she said

Telling the story of Tina's humble beginnings as Anna Mae Bullock in Brownsville, Tennessee, and charting her rise as one of the greatest singers and performers of all time - including her volatile relationship with singing partner and then-husband Ike Turner - TINA - The Tina Turner Musical is almost guaranteed to have you laughing one minute and crying the next.

"Tina Turner is a global icon of music, her songs are timeless classics and her personal life story is one that resonates with so many people," Stuart Ayres, NSW Minister for Tourism, said in a statement. "Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is a critically acclaimed global sensation that will appeal to a variety of audiences, from young fans to seasoned theatregoers, to people who just love great live music."

Australia’s connection with Turner runs deep. Her semi-autobiographical hit Nutbush City Limits spent a year in the top 100 of the Aussie singles chart in 1973 and its accompanying dance remains a standard at social gatherings to this day. Turner has toured Australia a number of times - in 1977, 1988, 1993, and 1997.

Australian-born Roger Davies has managed Turner since 1980 and was the first to the massive potential of What's Love Got To Do With It, eventually convincing her to record what would become her biggest hit and kickstart one of the greatest comebacks in the history of music. Tina later lent her star power to the iconic Aussie film Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985) – playing the platinum-blonde villain, Aunty Entity. Yet another chart-topping hit, We Don’t Need Another Hero came from the cult film.

Tina Turner & Jimmy Barnes - ‘(Simply) The Best’

And, from film to sports, Tina’s stardom knows no bounds. In the 90s, she also became an NRL legend after her emphatic hit, The Best soundtracked the NRL campaign. A duet of the track recorded with Aussie’s own rock legend Jimmy Barnes, re-titled to (Simply) The Best, climbed to the top of the charts in 1992 and was famously performed by the powerhouse duo at the 1993 NRL Grand Final.

We simply can't get enough of Tina!

Tina - The Tina Musical will be produced by TEG DAINTY in special collaboration with Stage Entertainment, Tali Pelman, and Tina Turner.

Paul Dainty AM, President, and CEO of TEG DAINTY said, "I first heard about the possibility of a stage musical portraying Tina’s life seven years ago and I immediately reached out to Tali Pelman at Stage Entertainment. At that point, there was no script and no book however I was hooked on the idea of it."

"We have been on that journey ever since, and here we are today launching the Australian premiere in Sydney! Australians will love this theatrical masterpiece which tells the story of Tina’s life, of empowerment and success, and is ultimately the best music industry comeback story of all time."
