Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed the television debut of their A Star Is Born hit, “Shallow” together at this year’s Oscars ceremony and Lady Gaga was the films only winner on the night, taking home the award for Best Original Song.

The performance and win are an echo from the past for the film that has captured the imaginations of audiences for generations. The film was first produced in 1937, starring Janet Gaynor, reimagined for the times in 1954, starring Judy Garland, and again in 1976 with Barbara Streisand at the helm.

It’s fair to say that Gaga inherited a legacy and a responsibility in keeping this story alive and surely did her predecessors proud when her Academy Award achievements exactly matched those of Barbara Streisand 42 years ago. Streisand was the first female composer to win the award for Best Original Song in 1977, Gaga was only the 11th all these years later. Both women were the only winners on the night from a score of nominations.
