Last week, New Wave icons, Duran Duran shared a new audio cover of David Bowie’s 1972 Ziggy Stardust… track, “Five Years” to mark what would have been the late music icon’s 74th birthday on January 8th.

Now, the band have updated us with a celestial new video for their rousing rendition of the tune featuring Bowie’s longtime collaborator, pianist Mike Garson. Earlier this month, Garson produced a cinematic virtual live event celebrating the Starman – A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day – from which this performance originates.

Duran Duran appeared alongside a stack of other icons, including Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails (check out their performances below). Check out Duran Duran’s official video for “Five Years” below.

“My life as a teenager was all about David Bowie. He is the reason why I started writing songs. Part of me still can’t believe in his death five years ago, but maybe that’s because there’s a part of me where he’s still alive and always will be,” singer Simon Le Bon said in a statement.

“When we got the Ziggy Stardust LP and put the needle in the groove, our first taste of its perfection was the song ‘Five Years.’ I can’t begin to explain how honoured I feel for Duran Duran to be given the opportunity to perform this icon, and to place our name alongside Bowie’s for this commemoration of his music.”

You can catch up on other performances from the A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day! live stream – watch Billy Corgan perform “Space Oddity” here; and check out Nine Inch Nails’ moody video for “Fashion” here.
