New Wave icons, Duran Duran have given us our first glimpse of their upcoming concert film entitled, A Hollywood High. Announced today, the 75-minute documentary will be released in cinemas globally on November 3, 2022. You can watch the trailer for it below.

The cinematic footage captures the band’s one-off rooftop performance on The Aster in Hollywood, overlooking the iconic Capitol Records building, as well as interviews and archival footage illustrating their long-time love affair with the city.

Duran Duran keyboardist, Nick Rhodes said in a statement: “For our first US show in several years we wanted to do something really special and intimate.”

“After considering many options, a rooftop performance quickly became the frontrunner. It was post-pandemic, we had never done anything like that before, and we had just released a new album. Somehow it seemed like a magical doorway to the next part of our journey.”

Bassist John Taylor added: “Duran Duran have had an enduring relationship with the city of Los Angeles since the first time we came to America.”

“We were determined to do something unique to celebrate our four decades together. A rooftop performance in LA with the Capitol Records building across the street and the Hollywood sign looming in the distance sounded perfect and turned out to be an extraordinary night for all of us.”

Duran Duran | ‘A Hollywood High’ [OFFICIAL TRAILER]

Directed by Gavin Elder, Vincent Adam Paul and George Scott, A Hollywood High will be released in cinemas globally on November 3, 2022.

Recently, Duran Duran took time out of their Hollywood Bowl performance to pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Frontman Simon Le Bon dedicated a performance of Say A Prayer to the late monarch and told the crowd, “So, you know that it’s a real sad time for a lot of us Brits, and a lot of other people around the world, and we would like to make our own tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.”

“If you’d like to join us and show your respect, please take your cell phone out, switch the light on. Let’s fill the Bowl with light for the queen. We say goodbye.”

An upcoming documentary, titled Meet Me In The Bathroom is set to explore the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between New York’s burgeoning indie scene at the dawn of the millennium. Bands like The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Interpol and many more key players from the era will feature in the film.

The film is based on a 2017 article by SPIN intern Lizzy Goodman, who set out to chronicle the meteoric rise of New York’s 2000s-era indie rock scene. Goodman's work explored New York’s rock resurgence as the decade unfolded, through firsthand accounts from the musicians at the forefront of the moment.

‘Meet Me In The Bathroom’ [Official Trailer]

Meet Me in the Bathroom will premiere in the US on November 4th, before hitting streaming on November 25th.

Following the doco’s long-awaited premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this year, critics hailed both the deeply personal documentation, as well as it’s poignant commentary on cultural changes – like the simultaneous rise of the internet – that shaped the era and music industry at large.

Foo Fighters have shared the first trailer for their upcoming horror comedy movie, STUDIO 666, which is arriving next month.

The clip sees frontman, Dave Grohl and his bandmates in a supernatural vortex as they attempt to record a new album in a haunted house. Grohl, possessed by demonic forces, begins to terrorize his bandmates in very rock and roll ways. Watch below!

Speaking about the film when it was first announced last year, Grohl said, “After decades of ridiculous music videos and numerous music documentaries under our collective belts, it was finally time to take it to the next level… A full-length feature horror-comedy film. Like most things Foo, STUDIO 666 began with a far fetched idea that blossomed into something bigger than we ever imagined possible.

“Filmed at the same house where we recorded our latest album ‘Medicine at Midnight’ (told you that place was haunted!), we wanted to recapture the classic magic that all of our favourite rock and roll movies had, but with a twist: hilarious gore that fucking ROCKS. And now, with the help of Tom Ortenberg and the team at Open Road Films we can finally let this cat out of the bag after keeping it our best kept secret for two years. Be ready to laugh, scream, and headbang in your popcorn. STUDIO 666 will fuck you up.”

STUDIO 666 is based on a story written by Dave Grohl and sees the full foo’s lineup – Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee – star alongside Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Jenna Ortega and more. The film is set for release next month.

Foo Fighters have shared the first sneak peek from their upcoming feature-length horror movie, Studio 666.

The 40-second teaser follows the Foos move into a studio mansion where they start recording before all manner of creepy chaos breaks out. There’s demonic-looking Grohl, ghosts, ghouls and monsters – all the vital ingredients of a horror classic. Watch below.

Studio 666 is set for release next year and stars the full Foo’s lineup – Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee – alongside Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Jenna Ortega and more.

According to a press release, the movie will find the Foo’s Fighters trying to record a new album at a Californian mansion “steeped in grisly rock and roll history”. However, once there, Grohl and co find themselves “finds himself grappling with supernatural forces that threaten both the completion of the album and the lives of the band” instead.

Grohl said in a statement: “After decades of ridiculous music videos and numerous music documentaries under our collective belts, it was finally time to take it to the next level… A full-length feature horror-comedy film. Like most things Foo, STUDIO 666 began with a far fetched idea that blossomed into something bigger than we ever imagined possible.”

Dave Grohl is having a prolific year! After releasing a Foo Fighters album, touring, releasing his Storyteller memoir and a documentary about van life, it has now been confirmed that the Foos are set to star in a horror-comedy movie, Studio 666 which is set to premiere in February next year.

The feature-length film sees the group move into a mansion in Encino California to record their highly anticipated 10th album. Once there, Grohl and co. find themselves up against supernatural forces, battling to save the record and their lives.

Studio 666 is distributed by Open Road Films and, in addition to the full Foos band – Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee – will star Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega and Jeff Garlin. The film is directed by BJ McDonnell.

“We couldn’t be more excited to team up with Foo Fighters for a movie sure to make audiences scream and laugh,” Open Road’s Tom Ortenberg said. “The Foos bring their comedic chemistry and the musical talent we all love to the big screen in this hysterical horror film.”

“Studio 666 is a perfect combination of all things I love. Rock, horror, and comedy all tied together in a very thrilling motion picture,” McDonnell said. “I am so excited to have teamed up with the Foo Fighters to create an old school “Band” movie. It’s been years since we’ve seen something like the Beatles Help!, The Monkees Head or KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. Take that 60’s / 70’s old school band film fun, mix it with horror and Studio 666 is born! I am so ecstatic for audiences of film and music to come together and enjoy our film.”

Studio 666 is due out February 25, 2022.

Nick Cave and his longtime Bad Seeds compadre, Warren Ellis have recorded the soundtrack for an upcoming film about the vivacious Marilyn Monroe.

As reported by the Guardian, the biopic titled Blonde is helmed by director and screenwriter Andrew Dominik and based on the fictionalised novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, released in 2000.

It marks the second time Cave and Ellis worked with Dominik, previously producing the 2016 film One More Time with Feeling, which documented Cave’s Skeleton Tree album, written in the aftermath of his son Arthur’s tragic death.

Additionally, the publication reports that the partnership is blossoming, with Cave and Ellis also slated to perform songs from their albums, including Carnage and Ghosteen for a new music film by Dominik.

Reflecting on working with Ellis, Cave told The Guardian: “It’s an incredible privilege to work with Warren. In any situation, he wants the best for me and I want the best for him. We have basically developed a way of working where we both relinquish control of the music we make together. We spend many hours improvising music together, sitting and playing in good faith without the politics and power grabs of many partnerships. We just let the songs find themselves.”

Dominik added: “Warren is a character. Just conversationally the way he can go off on these incredible verbal flights is quite something. Creatively, he’s incredibly open, but I have to say, he’s also enigmatic, even a bit secretive. He appears to be letting it all hangout, but he’s not really telling you anything about himself.”

Cave and Ellis have received widespread acclaim for their often effectively chilling film scores. This upcoming project adds to an impressive list of soundtrack releases, including the award-winning The Proposition (2005), The Road (2009), Hell or High Water (2016), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), West of Memphis and Wind River (2012).

Blonde, starring Ana De Armas as Marilyn Monroe, is set to be released next year, though a date is yet to be confirmed.

Country legend, Willie Nelson is opening his archives for a new docuseries chronicling his life titled Willie Nelson and Family.

According to Variety, production is said to be “well underway” for the project co-directed by Thom Zimny – whose credits include Springsteen on Broadway, The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley: The Searcher – and Oren Moverman – who co-wrote the surrealist Bob Dylan feature I’m Not There.

Nelson’s manager, Mark Rothbaum is developing the project in collaboration with Blackbird Presents, which specialize in music-based film and television production. Previous projects have focused on legendary artists like Merle Haggard, Gregg Allman, Kris Kristofferson, Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris and more.

The country icon himself is described as an “enthusiastic participant in the project”, rallying friends and family to take part in the series that is being filmed across Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, New York and Maui, as well as providing exclusive access to his archives.

“We are celebrating the music, the career, the long road, the family, friends and history,” co-directors Zimny and Moverman said in a joint statement. “But, more than anything, we are piecing together a narrative — one never before seen in its entirety — about an extraordinary man with a unique ability to bring people together; folks of all races, orientations, genders, political ideologies and musical leanings. These days, we sure could use the healing powers of Willie Nelson.”

Willie Nelson was a trailblazer of the outlaw country outlaw genre in the late 70s, pushing back against the conversation bounds of the traditional Nashville sound with albums like Shotgun Willie (1973), Red Headed Stranger (1975) and Stardust (1978) that made Nelson one of the most recognized artists of his time. Over the decades, Nelson has acted in over 30 films, co-authored several books, and has been involved in activism.

The first full trailer for HBO's documentary Tina, chronicling the life and legacy of Tina Turner, was unveiled earlier this month (see below).

This week, the highly-anticipated film is set to hit Australian screens, debuting on Foxtel Sunday the 28th of March.

In one of the greatest stories of talent and perseverance, the film details the legendary singer’s life and work with Ike Turner, including early hits like “Proud Mary” and “River Deep – Mountain High,” and her later solo career that peaked in the early 1980s with “Private Dancer” and “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

A teaser trailer released last month went back to the beginnings oft Turner’s turbulent childhood. Told in her own words, the latest clip focuses on her pivotal decision to leave her abusive marriage to then-husband and bandmate Ike, leading to her platinum-selling solo career comeback in the early Eighties.

"I had an abusive life," she says. "There's no other way to tell the story. ... The divorce, I got nothing. No money, no house. So I said, 'I'll just take my name.’” You can watch the trailer below.

TINA [Official Trailer]

An official description of the film promises an “intimate look at the life and career of musical icon Tina Turner, charting her improbable rise to early fame, her personal and professional struggles throughout her life and her even more improbable resurgence as a global phenomenon in the 1980s.”

Turner’s incredible story will be told using previously unseen footage, rare audio and personal photos, alongside interviews with Oprah Winfrey, former MTV News host Kurt Loder, playwright Katori Hall and Turner’s current husband, Erwin Bach. Directed by Oscar-winning directors Dan Lindsay and T.J Martin, Tina debuts on Saturday, March 27 via HBO (streaming on HBO Max). Find out more info, here.

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that the singer has been nominated for induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021 as a solo artist (she was previously inducted alongside Ike Turner in 1991). Tina is currently ranked second in the fan ballot – follow this link to vote for her!

It has been announced that there is an official Jeff Buckley biopic in the works. The film, titled Everybody Here Wants You will be co-produced by the late singer's mother, Mary Guibert and Alison Raykovich, who manages the singer’s estate.

Guibert said in a statement: “This will be the only official dramatisation of Jeff’s story which I can promise his fans will be true to him and to his legacy. Thankfully, my determination to assemble all the right participants, no matter how long it took, is about to culminate in the best way possible.”

Buckley will be played by singer Reeve Carney, who has previously performed in the Broadway shows Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark and The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again.

Jeff Buckley | “Last Goodbye”

Jeff Buckley sadly died in 1997 at the age of 30 after accidentally drowning in the Wolf River in Tennessee. He only released one, now iconic, album, Grace, in 1994 and was working on a follow-up, Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk at the time of his death. It was released posthumously in 1998.

The estranged son of revered folk musician Tim Buckley, who also died young of an overdose at just 28, Jeff struggled early on to make his own mark in music, separate to his father’s legacy. A number of films have films exploring the complex relationship have been released previously, including 2009’s Amazing Grace: Jeff Buckley and 2012’s Greetings From Tim Buckley.
