The Mötley Cre biopic, The Dirt, will premiere on Netflix in March. Anyone who has read the book of the same name by Rolling Stones’ Neil Strauss, will be familiar with the revealing discourse underpinning the notorious history of a band who certainly didn’t invent debauchery, but were perhaps the first to wear it like a badge of honour.

The two-and-a-half-minute trailer delves deep into their rise from the early Eighties Sunset Strip metal scene to their days as arena headliners. Conquering the Strip, and then the world, the band embody disaffected youth, trash hotel rooms and party like animals.

The dark side to the band's epic ascent and members personal lives is also given light. We get snippets of the car crash that killed Hanoi Rock drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley and sent Vince Neil to jail, Tommy Lee’s publicly turbulent marriage to Heather Locklear, Nikki Sixx’s near-fatal heroin overdose and Mick Mars’ enduring battle with the bone disease ankylosing spondylitis.

It’s also our first glimpse of the cast selected to portray the Cre boys. Machine Gun Kelly, a rapper who plays Tommy Lee in the film, said that despite having read The Dirt religiously since he was a teenager, he only fully realised the level of debauchery in which Mötley Cre indulged during the filming.

"It wasn’t until we were on set and doing these scenes that we were like, 'Whoa, this is dark. What are people going to think about this?'” he said. "But there’s something about the truth in that book -- the fact that you do fall in love with these people [who] then do this giant nosedive into this dark place."

So, for the Mötley Cre fans who know the band’s infamous escapades inside out, it seems the biopic, believe it or not, is set to deliver a whole new level of insight. For those who don’t – prepare to have your mind blown!

“The fans are dying for some anarchy, so let’s give it to them.” – Nikki Sixx

The Dirt, directed by Jeff Tremaine, will premiere on Netflix, March 22.
