Aretha Franklin’s Trailblazing Career to be Celebrated on the Small Screen

Get ready to celebrate the Queen of Soul! In less than a week, Nat Geo’s Genius series will return for a third instalment, set to explore the life and legacy of Aretha Franklin in the first and only authorized scripted series documenting her incredible life.
The iconic singer will be portrayed by multi-award-winning actress, Cynthia Erivo, telling the story of one of the world’s greatest talents. The series will explore everything from Franklin’s musical genius, trailblazing career and extraordinary achievements, to her “passionate and complex personal relationships” and the “immeasurable impact and lasting influence she has had on music and culture.”

Genius: Aretha Chain of Fools Trailer | National Geographic
The dramatised account of Franklin’s life and career will feature several of her hit tracks, including “Respect,” “Save Me,” “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)” and “Chain of Fools.”
In anticipation of next week’s premiere, a swinging rendition of one of her signature songs, “Chain Of Fools” as perfromed by the show’s cast, featuring the Tony/Emmy/Grammy Award-winning Cynthia Erivo on vocals, has been shared as a digital single on all download and streaming services. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks helmed the script for what, according to National Geographic, “will be the first-ever, definitive and only authorized scripted series on the life of the universally acclaimed Queen of Soul.”
Genius: Aretha premieres Monday 22nd March at 7:30pm on Foxtel’s National Geographic channel.
