Best Indigenous Australian Songs Of The 90s

Posted

We’ve been posting a few things relating to Double J’s ‘The 50 Best Australian Songs of the 90s‘ list and we’ve noticed that quite a few of the tracks on the list – all 4 that qualify in fact – will shortly also be making an appearance on Festival’s new ‘NIMA Presents The Sound of Indigenous Australia’ compilation, which is out July 7.

A 42 track collection The Sound of Indigenous Australia is being released in association with the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMA), which is an annual event being held this year in August in Darwin. The collection highlights a mix of the best recent/current Indigenous tracks from the likes of A.B.Original, Jessica Mauboy and Dan Sultan, together with, for the first time, a comprehensive list of the iconic anthems from the likes of Yothu Yindi, Archie Roach, Warumpi Band, Kev Carmody, Christine Anu, Coloured Stone, No Fixed Address and others.

And yep, it includes these classics...

Christine Anu – "Island Home" (No.45 on Double J’s ‘The 50 Best Australian Songs of the 90s‘)

Archie Roach – "Took The Children Away" (No.40 on Double J’s ‘The 50 Best Australian Songs of the 90s‘)

Paul Kelly & Kev Carmody – "From Little Things Big Things Grow" (No.16 on Double J’s ‘The 50 Best Australian Songs of the 90s‘)

Yothu Yindi – "Treaty" (No.6 on Double J’s ‘The 50 Best Australian Songs of the 90s‘)

NIMA Presents The Sound of Indigenous Australia is going to be a mandatory purchase for all lovers of Aussie music – you can preorder it now.
