Rounding out the top five was synth-pop legends Eurythmics in fourth place with 442,000 and the Queen of Country Dolly Parton in fifth place with around 390,000.

Parton has been eligible since 1989, but originally turned down her first-time nomination ever this year because she didn’t consider herself relevant to the Rock Hall in the genre but has since rescinded her stance, saying that she would “accept gracefully” because "the fans vote." Read more.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman, John Sykes recognized the Hall’s widening scope of nominees in a statement. "This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture," Sykes said. "Their music not only moved generations but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed."

Winning the fan ballot doesn’t guarantee induction into the Hall of Fame. The final decision will be made by a voting body made up of over 1000 artists, music industry members and historians who will select five of the 17 legendary artists up for consideration this year. Others in the running include DEVO, Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, New York Dolls and more.

The final Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2022 will be revealed sometime in May, with a date and location for the ceremony itself yet to be announced. We will keep you posted!
