As previously mentioned, out now on Festival Records is A LIFE IN THE SUN: AUSTRALIAN SURFING FILM SOUNTRACK MUSIC OF THE ‘60s & ‘70s, a 2CD, 49-track collection of material from classic Australian 60s & 70s surfing movie soundtracks, curated and annotated by noted vintage surf music and culture expert Stephen J McParland.

In a neat act of synchronicity, there is a one-off screening of the legendary Aussie surfing film Evolution, coming up in Sydney:

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Paul Witzig, hosted by journalist Stuart Coupe. The event serves to launch a new reissue - on deluxe VINYL and digital download - of the Evolution soundtrack, by Tamam Shud, which is out now on California’s Anthology Recordings. Also worth checking out is Anthology’s Surf Archive, which surveys the historical intersection of music and surf countercultures. More info here.
