Check out this great story in the Leader local newspaper (which services Melbourne’s outer east) on the iconic skating rink – and ‘70s rock venue – known as Iceland.
We understand the live rock shows took place at the rink on Sunday nights, and that it was an all ages venue. Most famously, AC/DC played there in 1975, but it was also home to shows by everyone for Billy Thorpe, Lobby Loyde, Daddy Cool, Madder Lake and Buffalo to Skyhooks, Rose Tattoo and Cold Chisel. The rink was also a favourite haunt of the local sharpies; obviously, their presence wasn’t enough to scare off the hordes of other kids who attended and kept it a viable gig on the local circuit for a number of years.
Check it out, here.
If you attended any shows at Iceland back in the day, we’d love you to share your memories with us.
