Heavy Soul

A companion piece to both A Different Kind of Blues and Cosmic Country, Heavy Soul looks at what happened after Soul and Rock crossed paths in the late 60s. It’s funky and down home, and includes Tony Joe White, Bobby Womack, Dr.John, Donnie Fritts, James Luther Dickinson, Leon Russell, Jim Ford, Link Wray, Johnny Jenkins, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Buddy Miles, Allman Brothers Band, Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett doing “Born to Wild” (!) and much more.

Heavy Soul features nearly two and a half hours of music and comprehensive liner notes by co-compiler and esteemed UK DJ and compilation producer Dean Rudland (the man responsible for countless classic soul and funk compilations on labels like Blue Note, Kent, BGP and Ace).
