Kylie's Golden Tour Is A Step Back In Time To Pop Perfection

Last night in Sydney, Kylie Minogue kicked off her Golden Tour to a packed ICC Theatre in Darling Harbour.

The show was nothing short of pure pop perfection executed with style, grace and a whole lotta throwbacks to her chart-topping hits of the 80s and 90s. The songs from the latest album, Golden, did not feel out of place though, in fact, they were just a reminder that she's at the top of her game - still.

There's something about our Princess of Pop that demands national pride, and it's not because she sells out arenas all over the world, or because her singles and albums have dominated charts for almost 40 years. It's because she remains humble, excitable, down to earth and we all, quite frankly, want to be her best friend.

The new show boasts impeccable production, as we have come to expect from Kylie. The setting fuses mid-western Americana with pop glam complete with cowboy hats, leather chaps, mesmerising choreography and an amount of sparkle that is almost blinding. We counted at least five cannon explosions that filled the ICC with glitter, sparkles, streamers and confetti. Feeling slightly worried for the folks cleaning the venue, they'll be finding little gold foil pieces for the next three years!

Everyone was on their feet dancing away to the disco hits like "Better The Devil You Know", "The Loco-Motion" and "Spinning Around", and in awe at the reworked interpretations of classics like "Confide In Me" and "Love At First Sight". The night ended with 2018's "Dancing" - Kylie's foray into Dolly Parton-esque country-pop.

One particular highlight was the inclusion of 1988's "Especially For You", the Kylie and Jason Donovan ballad. Talk about a nostalgia hit back to the days of Neighbours when Scott and Charlene were the ultimate power couple. She's come a long way, our Kylie.
