Neil Young has shared a cover version of Bob Dylan’s iconic protest song, “The Times They Are a-Changin’” which will appear on his upcoming EP, The Times (pre-order here). The song was originally written by Dylan in 1964 as an intentional attempt to write an anthem of change, and once again finds it’s relevance bolstered over five decades later.

Young and Dylan recently came together for a series of co-headline UK and European dates in 2019.

“The Times They Are a-Changin’” was the title track from Dylan’s third album and remains one of his most revered songs. Young recorded a cover of the song in June during one of his Fireside Sessions – an ongoing lockdown series that has seen Young dive into the archives to perform acoustic versions of well-loved songs and rarities from his vast catalogue, filmed by his wife, Darryl Hannah at their Colorado ranch. Young plays acoustic guitar and harmonica in his fairly faithful rendition of the Dylan classic, which he shared via the Neil Young Archives (NYA) website. You can listen, here.

The track will also appear on Young's upcoming EP called The Times which is due out on September 18th. The politically-charged, career-spanning collection includes iconic protest songs like “Ohio” and “Southern Man,” plus the recently released (updated) single, “Lookin’ For A Leader 2020.” The EP also features Young’s Homegrown original “Little Wing” and “The Times They Are A-Changin’” recorded during the "Porch Episode" of the Fireside Sessions. The Times is due out September 18th – Pre-order here.

Young says he’s chosen to release the EP via Amazon Music because “no one delivers better sound to the masses.” Listen to the fist two singles from The Times on Amazon:
