Farm Aid is a fundraising event started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp back in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and continues to work towards making sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers.
So, it’s only fitting that Nelson and Young should take the stage together to celebrate their good work. Watch below as they join forces to perform Heart of Gold, Young’s first-ever number one single in the US from his 1972 album, Harvest. It seems to be a somewhat impromptu performance, with Nelson learning the chords changes in real-time, but the performance demonstrates the collaborative, familial atmosphere that makes their own creation, Farm Aid such a unique and special event.
