John Prine, who sadly passed away in April this year, was one of the most celebrated singer/songwriters of his generation. Known for his raspy voice and unique songwriting style, Prine was considered a true folk-singer and leaves us with a catalogue of witty and sincere country-folk, drawing from his Midwestern American roots, R&B and rockabilly.

Today, a new John Prine box set has been announced. Crooked Piece of Time: The Atlantic & Asylum Albums out October 23rd (pre-order here) brings together the late singer-songwriter’s first seven albums; covering Prine’s entire catalogue with Atlantic and Asylum Records. It is named after a song from 1978’s Bruised Orange and represents a timeless American songbook of modern-day folk standards like “Hello In There,” “Angel From Montgomery” and “Paradise.”

John Prine | “Paradise”

The newly remastered collection includes the following albums in mini-LP replica sleeves (see tracklisting below): John Prine (1971), Diamonds In The Rough (1972), Sweet Revenge (1973), Common Sense (1975), Bruised Orange (1978), Pink Cadillac (1979) and Storm Windows (1980). The clamshell box also contains poster inserts and a 20-page booklet with new liner notes written by acclaimed music journalist David Fricke. The cover art was painted by artist Joshua Petker especially for the set and is based on a photo of Prine taken by Jim Shea.
