New Order have announced a special remastered boxset, comprised of an LP, two CDs, two DVDs and a book, for their defining second album, Power Corruption & Lies will be released on October 2nd (pre-order here).
Originally released in 1983 via Factory Records, the critically acclaimed LP was widely seen as a declaration of independence from the band’s Joy Division origins. Whilst their 1981 debut album, Movement had felt like a more danceable continuation, Power Corruption & Lies cemented New Order’s place as one of the most innovative post-punk-electronic bands on the planet, with a sound that was their own. Propelled by singles “Age Of Consent” and “Your Silent Face,” the album made it to number four on the UK album charts, while non-album single “Blue Monday” gave New Order their first Top 10 single, and remains one of the UK's best-selling 12-inch singles of all time.
Drummer Stephen Morris told Rolling Stone that when they produced Power, Corruption & Lies they had only started experimenting with the synthesizers and sequencers that feature so prominently “two weeks before we went into the studio,” describing “Blue Monday” as “an exercise in learning how to use sequencers.”

Today (August 5), it’s been announced that a remastered edition of the album, along with a stack of bonus material and rarities – across an LP, two CDs, two DVDs and a book – will feature in the 2020 Definitive Edition: Power, Corruption & Lies boxset, which will arrive on October 2nd.
Rarities include previously unreleased writing sessions from New Order’s rehearsal space in Manchester, plus their 1982 BBC John Peel Session. The DVDs capture New Order live during 1982 and 83 at The Hacienda and Kilkenny, their 1984 Play at Home TV documentary and more. The limited-edition boxset was designed by the band’s long-time collaborator, Peter Saville and is completed by a beautiful 48-page hardback book of rare photos and original text.
The group are also reissuing four non-album 12-inch singles from the era, including “Blue Monday,” “Confusion,” “Thieves Like Us” and “Murder” which will be available individually and included in the 2020 Definitive Edition: Power, Corruption & Lies bundle – Pre-order here.
