Nine Inch Nails have kicked off their first tour since 2018 over the weekend with a hit-laden set that included back-to-back covers of two David Bowie classics, ‘I’m Afraid of Americans’ and ‘Fashion’.
The band’s US tour opener at North Carolina’s Red Hat Amphitheatre delivered many of NIN’s most beloved hits, including Closer and The Frail, during the first half of the set, and a two-track tribute to Reznor’s friend and collaborator, David Bowie, in the second half.

Nine Inch Nails | ‘Fashion’
I’m Afraid Of Americans was co-produced by Bowie and Reznor in 1997 and came with an official music video featuring the pair in a very film noir-style pursuit through the streets of New York City (revisit it below). Fashion, originally released on Bowie’s 1981 album Changestwobowie, was covered by Reznor in January 2021 for A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day!, a global live-streamed event marking the icon’s 74th birthday.
