“Father’s Song” in this, its complete form, has long been a ‘holy grail’ track for Prince fans.  A 90 second snippet of it makes an appearance during the Purple Rain film when The Kid, played by Prince, discovers his father’s sheet music. Although its main melodic phrase was later reinterpreted for inclusion in “Computer Blue”, “Father’s Song” is Prince at his most melancholic contemplative, an instrumental of uncommon vulnerability and emotional impact.
