'Rip It Up And Start Again' [Trailer].

An official extended trailer for a new upcoming documentary, titled Rip It Up And Start Again, has been shared.

The film, based on Simon Reynolds’ 2005 book of the same name, will take viewers on a fascinating deep-dive through the underground uprising of the post-punk era, between 1978-1984; much like Reynolds’ book which offered “a big-picture view of the entire post-punk period.”

An official description reads: “In this, the first book to take a big-picture view of the entire post-punk period, acclaimed author and music journalist Simon Reynolds recreates a time of tremendous urgency and idealism in pop music. Full of anecdote and insight, and featuring the likes of Joy Division, The Fall, Pere Ubu, PiL and Talking Heads, Rip It Up And Start Again stands as one of the most inspired and inspiring books on popular music ever written.”

Directed by Nikolaos Katranis and Russell Craig Richardson, the doco will feature interviews with PiL’s Jah Wobble, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Raincoats’ Ana da Silva and Mark Stewart. Along with these brand new interviews, Rip It Up And Start Again will also include rare archival performance footage, and contain music by The Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, Kraftwerk and more.

A release date has not yet been confirmed – butte quell the wait, you can watch a jam-packed, extended 16-minute preview of the film, featuring old photographs and archival videos from the post-punk era, over on Brooklyn Vegan, here.
