James Ingram, the veteran Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated R&B singer, sadly passed away yesterday aged 66.

James was a keyboard player for Ray Charles before his solo career took off and he went on to put out two studio albums as a joint venture with music mogul Quincy Jones. Ingram won Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards in 1982, when he was also nominated for Best New Artist.  He won his second Grammy for the song "Yah Mo B There", which he performed with Michael McDonald.

Ingram enjoyed two US #1s, "Baby Come To Me" (1986) and "I Don’t Have The Heart" (1990).  He was Oscar-nominated in 1994 and 1995 for his duet with Dolly Parton on "The Day I Fall In Love" from Beethoven’s 2nd and "Look What Love Has Done" from the comedy film Junior.

We'll remember his soulful voice through his music and influence his songs had on RnB and pop music.
