Robert Plant has launched a new career retrospective podcast called, Digging Deep. Hosted by renowned music journalist, Matt Everitt, the show will see Plant take a look back over the moments, people and places that have inspired him throughout his career, both with Led Zeppelin and as a solo artist.
In a teaser about the show, the rock icon said: "Mostly wherever I am even now all these years later, I really wanna be there. I’m going to be picking out some songs from here and there along the way, mixing constant shifts and sound and intention. Men and women who encouraged and enlightened the themes and the stories that she weaves within a popular song are without equal."
Plant describes going back and listening to some of the songs he's recorded over his five-decade career and marvelling at them, finding the players in the room to be, "out of sight... they found me to be something that they hadn't been used to dealing with."
In the first episode, the Led Zeppelin frontman discusses "Calling To You", the opening track on his 1993 album "Fate Of Nations".
Plant says: "Everybody has a back catalogue, and you do tend, as artists, to only deal in the very front end of it. But then, now and again, down the line, opening up some of the songs, and looking back at them, I marvel at some of it, and how nuts some of it is.
The podcast promises to follow a path that “starts in the midlands, leads to Led Zeppelin and takes us around the world, discussing people and places that have inspired some of his most treasured music.”
Robert Plant’s music is the result of a lifetime striding around the globe. Digging Deep goes straight to the source, offering a retrospective from someone who wasn’t just there but was more or less leading the way through one of the most transformative decades the world has ever known. It’s about the best music history lesson anyone could hope for!
