Netflix has released the first trailer for Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story, a documentary following his most wild and unconventional tour (even by Dylan’s standards) from 1975 which will arrive on the streaming service on June 12th.
In Bob Dylan’s first on-camera interview in over a decade, he and a handful of his collaborators recollect the fabled adventure, which saw the singer seek out smaller, more intimate audiences at idiosyncratic, sometimes secret locations, purposefully scaling down production to scale up experience. Dylan assembled an all-star crew including Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, poet Allen Ginsberg and actress Sharon Stone, for a road trip across America to play in the most unlikely places - retirement homes, Amish communities and everything in between - in the name of art, music and adventure. The fact that it was a financial failure almost, retrospectively, seems like the point.
“It wasn’t a success, not if you measure success in terms of profit,” Dylan says of the tour in the trailer. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Or finding anything. Life is about creating yourself.”
Thanks to Dylan's ambitions at the time to make a film of the tour, Scorsese had a lot of material to work with. Now, this never-before-seen, anachronistic footage from 1975 stands as a testament to the sort of forethought that made him a Nobel prize-winning artist.

Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story will premiere on Netflix on June 12.
On Friday, June 7th, Dylan will release his Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings - a 14-disc collection featuring five complete shows from the 1975 tour along with rarities and rehearsals.
