Former Skid Row singer Johnny Solinger has died on Saturday (June 26th), aged 55.

The vocalist, who fronted the metal pioneers for 15 years, passed away a month after revealing that he was suffering from liver failure and had been hospitalized for treatment of the condition.

On May 8th, Solinger posted a statement to Facebook saying: “It is with a heavy heart I must let everyone know what’s going on with me and my health. I have been hospitalised for over the last month. I have been diagnosed with liver failure. And prognosis is not so good. As with most musicians I do not have health insurance and it’s very difficult to get proper care without it.”

Following the news of the rocker's passing on Saturday, Skid Row posted a tribute on Instagram reading: “We are saddened to hear the news of our brother Johnny Solinger. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans.”

“Godspeed Singo. Say hello to Scrappy for us.”

Solinger joined the pioneering metal band in 1999, replacing original frontman Sebastian Bach. He featured on several Skid Row albums, from 2003’s Thickskin, Revolutions per Minute (2006), United World Rebellion (2103) and Rise Of The Damnation Army (2014). He was Skid Row’s longest-serving singer in their 35-year career.

He said farewell to the group in 2015 with a staement reading: “The past 15 years has been a great experience and I have appreciated the opportunity to be the lead singer in one of the most prominent bands of the 1990s and share stages with the likes of Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Kiss, performing in front of millions throughout the world,”

Todd Kerns, who played bass in Slash’s solo band, paid tribute to his friend with a statement reading: “Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my brother in music Johnny Solinger. He was a big, bold flash of life. He will be dearly missed. Keep the mic warm for me when I get up there so we can rock together once more.”

Solinger is survived by his wife, Paula Marcenaro Solinger.
