The Doobie Brothers are celebrating two major milestones this year; the band’s 50th anniversary and their upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November.

Just announced is a brand new new boxed set, scheduled to arrive before the Rock Hall induction ceremony. The collection highlights some of the classic rock hits that helped make the Doobie Brothers one of the most popular bands of their generation and beyond. The Doobie Brothers: Quadio features quadraphonic mixes of Toulouse Street (1972), The Captain & Me (1973), What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits (1974), and Stampede (1975).

Let’s have a look at some classic hits from the upcoming collection.

Toulouse Street (1972)

Beginning with the group’s second album, Toulouse Street, released in July 1972. The platinum-selling record launched the group to stardom with the hits “Listen to The Music,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway” and “Jesus is Just Alright.”

The Captain & Me (1973)

The following year, the band returned with The Captain & Me, which achieved double-platinum status with hits like “Long Train Runnin’” “China Grove,” “South City Midnight Lady” and “Without You.” These back-to-back classic albums represent one of the greatest one-two vinyl punches of the 1970s, with many songs from still radio mainstays to this day.

What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits (1974)

In 1974, the Doobie Brothers reached new heights with their fourth album, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. The record peaked at #4 on the albums chart and gave them their first #1 hit with “Black Water.”

Stampede (1975)

Stampede is the final studio album in the collection, and was also the band’s last to feature original singer/guitarist Tom Johnston until he re-joined the band in 1989. The album also peaked at #4 on the albums chart with Top 40 hits “Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me)” and “Sweet Maxine.”

All four albums have been mastered using the original four-track Quad mixes. The set includes both the quadraphonic and high-resolution stereo (19224 DTS-HD Master Audio) mixes for each album. To enjoy the Quadraphonic mix as intended, the Blu-ray audio discs should be played using Surround Sound. The Blu-ray audio discs come in replicas of the original vinyl record, packaged in a clamshell box.
