Doobie Brothers’ singer, Michael McDonald has released a timely live cover of “What the World Needs Now” – the 1965 hit penned by Burt Bacharach and Hal David – and it's just what we needed. If there’s anything out there right now with the power to soothe a troubled soul, it’s this heart-meltingly smooth performance from McDonald in 2019.

The beautiful concert recording is accompanied by a touching lyric video montage of family home videos and togetherness from around the globe. “The mindfulness of being a community is always important … especially now,” the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee told Billboard, who premiered the release.  Watch below.

This Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony has been postponed until November 7th this year. At the coveted event, McDonald will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of the Doobie Brothers, along with bandmates Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons and John McFee.

“It’s been one of the great honors of my life to share the stage with all these guys over the years,” McDonald said. “To see the band receive this honor is wonderful, to say the least.”
