A new episode of Rolling Stone’s Music Now podcast takes a deep dive into the life and music of the legendary Cars frontman, Ric Ocasek. Host, Brian Hiatt is joined by Rolling Stone writer, David Browne as he shares details from his reporting on Ocasek, who sadly passed away in September of this year.

Going right back to the start, the podcast maps the iconic artist's rise from struggling folk musician to MTV hit-maker and ultimately, go-to alt-rock producer; looking back at Ocasek’s collaborations with Weezer and more. The episode also takes time to pay tribute to Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, who also died in September, at age 78.

With Ocasek at the helm, The Cars transformed heartbreak and melancholy into impossibly catchy synth-pop sing-alongs, guaranteed to brighten anyone's day. Listen to The Cars on Spotify:
