Believe it or not – today is Cher’s 75th birthday! 

On this momentous occasion, the pop icon has announced an upcoming biopic about her incredible life is in the works. The casting and plot of the biopic are yet to be finalised, however, as  Deadline reports, it won’t be “a break-into-song musical” style film like Mama Mia!. She announced the exciting news in a tweet, see below.

Judy Craymer, who turned ABBA’s music into a stage musical, will be producing with Gary Goetzman. Academy Award-winning scriptwriter Eric Roth will be in the directors’ chair, following his most recent effort of adapting the script for adapting Martin Scorcese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and co-writing the new Dune film. As Cher points out, Roth also served as co-writer on the wildly successful 2018 adaptation of A Star Is Born. 

Cher first rocketed to fame as one half of the husband-wife folk duo Sonny & Cher, with their 1965 No. 1 classic “I Got You, Babe.”

Following their split in 1975, Cher’s meteoric rise to superstardom was solidified by solo hits like “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves,” “‘Half-Breed” and “Turn Back Time.” Today, she is one of the most successful female artists of all time whose career shows no signs of slowing.
