Legendary Irish rockers, U2 have announced that they will return to Australia this November bring their long-awaited 'The Joshua Tree Tour' to Australia.

The tour will mark the band’s first Australian shows in almost a decade and the news comes with a very bonus prize – they will be supported by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds!

The 'Joshua Tree Tour 2019' follows the 2017 iteration that celebrated 30 years since the release of the band's seminal album in 1987. Now, it’s Australia’s turn to see the iconic album performed in full alongside hits, fan favourites and more.

The run of stadium shows kicks off in Brisbane, before moving on to Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Perth.

“It’s only taken me 30 years to learn how to sing these songs and it’s great to be able to say that I’ve finally caught up with the band,” Bono said.

“Our audience has given the Joshua Tree a whole new life on this tour. Doing these shows has been very special for us, a lot of emotion. From the despair of how relevant some of the dark songs still are, to the joy, pure fun of the staging… it’s quite a ride.”

Staging for the tour includes a series of specially commissioned films from Dutch photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn, who shot the cover art for the original Joshua Tree album sleeve.

"We really, REALLY wanted to bring The Joshua Tree to New Zealand, Australia and Asia" added The Edge. "We promised we would and finally, now we can say that we will see you in November... It’s going to feel like a homecoming, and we are very excited." Added The Edge.

Noel Gallagher’s band joined U2 on the initial anniversary tour and said that they were “beside” themselves to continue the run, noting: “The Joshua Tree 2017 tour was some of the most fun we ever had. It will be both an honour and a pleasure to share the stage with our friends and comrades once again. It’s gonna be a ripper!”

The Joshua Tree became the fastest-selling album in British history when it topped the charts in over 20 countries back in 1987. Despite their Irish heritage, after spending a lot of time touring the country, the band chose America as the theme for the album and clearly struck a chord with their powers of reflection. It produced the hit singles "With or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", and "Where the Streets Have No Name", the first two of which became the group's only number-one singles in the US.
