At last night’s ARIA Award ceremony at The Star in Sydney, an incredible all-star ensemble of Australian female singers paid tribute to the late Helen Reddy with a powerful  rendition  Reddy’s iconic feminist anthem ‘I Am Woman’.

Singers including Marcia Hines, Delta Goodrem, Kate Cebrano, Jessica Mauboy and more performed live at the ceremony, while a host of other artists from around the country, Katie Noonan and Missy Higgins among the many, joined in via video link shown on a giant screen behind.

Former Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard introduced the performance, speaking of Reddy’s enduring dedication to activism and women’s rights throughout her life. Watch the inspiring tribute below.

Born in Melbourne in 1941, Reddy was a trailblazing star, becoming the first Australian to win a Grammy Award when she topped the charts around the world with “I Am Woman” in 1972.  The song, co-written with Ray Burton in 1971, was one of three number-one singles off her debut album, I Don't Know How to Love Him.

Sadly, Reddy passed away in September of this year, after being diagnosed with dementia in 2015. A film biopic detailing the legendary singer-songwriter’s incredible life story was also released last month, see more here.
