Dave Grohl kept himself and his fans entertained during last years lockdown by sharing captivating tales from the Instagram account Dave’s True Stories (see here), which saw him reminisce about everything from jamming with icons like PrinceDavid Bowie and Led Zeppelin to accidentally blowing up his mum’s neighbourhood 4th of July party with an ill-fated firework.

Now, he has announced he has a brand new memoir titled The Storyteller arriving in October this year – and we can’t wait!

A press release describes the book as a collection of “stories and musings on music from throughout his life and career, including dispatches from his childhood, stories about Nirvana, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Joan Jett, Iggy Pop, and Paul McCartney, playing drums for Tom Petty, performing at the White House, and swing dancing with AC/DC.”

To preview the book, Grohl has shared an audio clip of himself reading an excerpt from the book describing his obsessive relationship with music, writing and recording that began when he was a teenager. Listen below.

“There is a common thread that runs throughout everything that I do: storytelling. Whether in song, documentary film or on the page, I have always felt compelled to share moments from my life. This inclination is a huge part of what excites me creatively but also as a human being,” Grohl said in a statement.

He went on to explain how the memoir has been inspired by his Dave’s True Stories Instagram account because the “reward I [Grohl] felt every time I posted a story was the same as the feeling I get when playing a song to an audience, so I kept on writing. The response from readers was a soul-filling as any applause in an arena. So, I took stock of all the experiences I’ve had in my life-incredible, difficult, funny, and emotional — and decided it was time to finally put them into words.”

The Storyteller is due out Tuesday, October 5th via Dey Street Books.
