The rumours are true – Sir Elton John is recording a duet with pop star Britany Spears.
Reps for both artists confirmed the news earlier this week (August 8th), with a press release revealing the name of the track, Hold Me Closer with the cover art; quashing claims that the pair were recording a new version of John’s 1972 hit, Time Dancer.
An unnamed source told Page Six that “Britney was in the studio in Beverly Hills last week with Elton for the super-secret recording session overseen by uber-producer Andrew Watt.”
Spears’ longtime friend, Paris Hilton described the pairing as “iconic” in a recent interview with, Paul Voor Je Neus, adding that she had even “heard it a few days ago in Ibiza and it is… it’s insane.”
Sir Elton has become something of a master collaborator in recent years, from working with Gorillaz on their 2020 special guest extravaganza LP, Strange Timez: Song Machine (listen here), to an entire album of high-profile collabs, with everyone from Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa to Stevie Nicks and Stevie Wonder, that he recordedfor his 2021 the Lockdown Sessions LP. Spears revealed that she had begun working on new music late last year, after her contentious 13-year conservatorship was ended. The singer shared an a Capella rendition of her signature hit, Baby One More Time on Instagram following the termination. “I haven’t shared my voice in an extremely long time … maybe too long,” she wrote in the caption.
