Gerling's Darren Cross Is Artist In Residence This Month On Double J

Posted

If you listened to much Triple J in the ‘90s and early '00s, you probably remember Sydney’s Gerling - the band with the weird backpacks, and great tunes like “Death To The Apple Gerls”, “Enter, Space Capsule” and “Dust Me Selecta”.

Although the band has been on hiatus since 2007, its two principal members, Darren Cross and Paul Towner, aka Presser, have remained active. Whilst Presser has explored brilliant and witty psychedelic visual realms under the name Dead Galaxy, Cross has explored dance music under the name the E.L.F and more recently alternative country and folk as a solo artist and in the duo Jep And Dep..

This month you can get back into a Gerling state of mind as Darren Cross appears as Artist in Residence on Double J.

What that means, according to Double J’s website, is this:

“As Artist In Residence, Cross has decided to focus on one of the greatest loves of his life: live music. Across his four shows, he’ll take us on a journey from the festival stages of the Big Day Out to the small, sticky carpet music venues and sweaty club dancefloors.

Episode one promises to be a cracker, as he looks back at the Big Day Out and reflects on some of his fondest memories of the event both as a punter and a performer.

Hear him each Sunday from 3pm, repeated Wednesday nights at 10pm and any time online.”
