Neil Young and Crazy Horse are gearing up to release their new album, Colorado on October 25th. The reunited rockers have just unveiled their second single from the upcoming LP, “Rainbow of Colors.” Lyrically, the track makes a stand against divisive forces and an optimistic call for unity.
“The idea of the song is that we all belong together,” Young wrote on his Neil Young Archives website. “‘Rainbow of Colors’ is a song about the USA and the whole world. Separating us into races and colors is an idea whose time has passed. With the Earth under the direct influence of Climate Change, we are in crisis together needing to realize we are all one. Our leaders continually fail to make this point. Preoccupied with their own agendas, they don’t see the forest for the trees.”
Much like the first single from Colorado, “Milky Way,” it’s a decidedly mellow offering from the usually raucous sound of Crazy Horse. Listen below:

The veteran rocker first revealed Crazy Horse’s return to the studio back in April this year, announcing that Colorado would arrive in October, and feature “10 new songs ranging from around 3 minutes to over 13 minutes”.
Just last month, Young announced he was postponing all tour plans for the rest of the year to focus on a colossal 15 film projects. One of them is Mountaintop Sessions, a documentary chronicling the making of Colorado. It was shot by cinematographer C.K. Vollick and will premiere in more than a hundred theatres worldwide to coincide with the release of Colorado.
Young could barely contain his excitement, writing on his website: “It is a wild one folks, no holds barred. You will see the whole process just as it went down! Worts [sic] and all! I don’t think a film about this subject with the openness and intensity we have captured has ever been seen.” Read the full post on Young’s Archives website here.
Colorado will be the first Neil Young and Crazy Horse album since 2012’s Psychedelic Pill. But, in a recent note, Young hinted that he’s already planning Crazy Horse’s next record: “Another one is coming,” he wrote. “I can feel it. It’s a new generation for the Horse. Long live the Horse!”
