36 years on from the release of Master of Puppets, Metallica has finally shared an official video for the iconic metal anthem. The animated lyric video is a fitting accompaniment to the title track of their 1986 album, featuring fiery scenes laced with flying guitars, puppet strings and, according to Metal Hammer, “more crosses than the average Vatican Gift Shop”.
The video arrives on the back of the recent viral resurgence of Master of Puppets and metal fandom generated by Netflix’s cult sci-fi series, Stranger Things – also responsible for propelling Kate Bush’s 1985 hit Running Up That Hill (Deal With God) to number one on the charts – season 4 finale, in which metal loving character Eddie Munsun – played by actor Joseph Quinn – defeats a demon with a shredding rendition of the classic metal hit.
The new video was made by UK design agency ILoveDust, who have recently worked with Ozzy Osbourne on the artwork for his upcoming album Patient Number 9, and Foo Fighters' Studio 666 horror movie. Watch below!
