New Order and Adidas have combined their awesome powers to launch a new collaborative capsule range dubbed the nwrdrSPZL. And it’s not just a case of them slapping their name on a pair of sneakers – the New Wave icons actually travelled to the Adidas’ headquarters in Germany after being invited by the founder of Adidas Spezial, and self-confessed New Order fan, Gary Aspden.

The band collaborated with a team of designers to create a limited range of items inspired by the sound and aesthetic of the Manchester scene they both spearheaded and defined. The collection includes an outerwear jacket with Adidas’ trademark stripes interlaced with a New Order sleeve patch,  and a soccer jersey bearing the band’s 39 Tour graphic, with their track title “586” emblazoned across the chest.

Other items include a New Order hooded parka; a unique pair of New Order Adidas trainers, similar to the white Wilsy SPZL sneakers Bernard Sumner often wears when performing live with New Order; and a range of T-shirts bearing both logos. You can check out the whole collection in the stylish promo video below.

Adidas Spezial founder, Gary Aspden praised the band’s input with a statement saying: “This product release is built on existing synergies and both Bernard Sumner and Warren Jackson made trips to the adidas HQ in Herzogenaurach to oversee and agree on every detail with myself and the adidas Spezial team.”

“Add to that a piece of film produced by & SON that is soundtracked by a re-edit of New Order’s latest track “Be a Rebel” and we have a project that I personally am very proud to have worked on.”

“Like adidas, New Order were part of the fabric of my upbringing. They were a huge component in the culture that I come from. Their work and attitude have been an ongoing influence throughout my life and in what I do. Their following was cultish and there wasn't a bus shelter or bus in my home town that didn't have New Order scrawled on it when I was a teenager.”
